Meeting of the CIS Council of Foreign Ministers
Limiting the participation of Belarus and Russia in international affairs will jeopardize the prospects for negotiations on the situation in Ukraine. This was stated by Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei, participating in a meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the CIS.
“The head of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry emphasized that attempts to limit the participation of Belarus and Russia in international affairs will not only not contribute to the settlement situation in Ukraine, but also puts the prospects for a peaceful negotiation process at additional risk, — said the press service of the department.
He also recalled that Minsk is in favor of a speedy settlement of the conflict through diplomacy.
Makei also discussed with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov joint opposition to Western sanctions, and they exchanged views on the situation in the region, the prospects for resolving the conflict in Ukraine and interaction between the two countries in the international arena.

According to Thomas-Greenfield, the UN had already isolated Russia when the General Assembly held two votes on resolutions condemning Moscow's actions in Ukraine.
