From May 16, Russia will remove restrictions on the exit of Russians through the state border to the DPR and LPR, Armenia and Kyrgyzstan, and will also resume flights with Ecuador. This was reported to journalists at the headquarters for combating COVID-19, TASS reports.

“Following the discussion and taking into account the stabilization of the epidemiological situation, it was decided to remove a number of restrictions on crossing the state border from May 16, 2022 < ;…> for the departure of Russian citizens on the territory of the Donetsk People's Republic and the Lugansk People's Republic,— the message says.

In addition, the restriction is also lifted on the entry of citizens of Armenia, including by crossing the Russian-Georgian section of the state border of Russia, and citizens of Kyrgyzstan, as well as on “the departure of citizens of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Armenia and the Kyrgyz Republic.”

Before that, Russia lifted restrictions on the movement of citizens across the Russian-Belarusian border, and also lifted restrictions on entry across the land border with Kazakhstan, Mongolia and China.

In March 2020, Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin ordered the closure of Russian borders as part of the fight against the spread of coronavirus. The restrictions did not affect diplomats, truck drivers, crew members of river vessels, train and locomotive crews, those who leave Russia due to the death of a close relative, as well as residents of the Kaliningrad region, the DPR and LPR.

At the end of March, Rospotrebnadzor announced the softening of the rules for entry by land for citizens of the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and Russians. From April 1, residents of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Russia should not present a PCR test for coronavirus when passing through control at the land border.

Shortly before, general mobilization was announced in the republics due to the aggravation of the situation on the borders. Then Putin announced the recognition of the LPR and DPR, and the parliaments of the republics ratified the treaty of friendship and cooperation with Russia.
