The largest Turkish bank Ziraat Bank continues to service Russian Mir cards, RIA Novosti reported. in a credit institution.

On September 19, two large Turkish private banks— Isbank and Denizbank stopped servicing Russian Mir cards. Isbank said that they made a decision after the statement of the US Treasury regarding the cooperation of financial organizations with the Mir payment system; and suspended operations. Denizbank did not give a specific reason.
A week earlier, the US Treasury Department indicated that financial institutions that enter into new or expand existing agreements with the NSPK “at the risk of supporting Russia's efforts to circumvent US sanctions.” At the same time, the Mir card operator itself not under US sanctions. Experts interviewed by RBC said that Turkish banks would take the risk of sanctions seriously due to cooperation with the Mir payment system.

Sanctions against the Russian payment system were not ruled out in the European Union either. Such a decision can be made by Brussels if Russia does not stop the military operation in Ukraine, said the representative of the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, Peter Stano.
The press service of the Mir payment system told RBC that the situation with the acceptance and maintenance of their cards in each country depends on the position of banks. “Foreign partners themselves decide to open the infrastructure for accepting Mir cards, their acceptance and service in a particular country will depend on the position of the credit institutions themselves,” — noted in the message.
